Решение было претворено в жизнь и "Broken hope" получили некоторое признание в дэт-металлических кругах. Тут начались проблемы со вторым гитаристом, приведшие к его замене на Брайана Гриффина. С ним коллектив записал еще одну демку, чем обратил на себя внимание лейбла "Grindcore records".
В 1991-м фирма эта выпустила дебютный альбом "Broken hope". "Swamped In Gore" представлял собой смесь гриндкора и дэта, а тексты были наполнены обычной gore-тематикой. Хотя ни одного цента музыканты за этот релиз не получили, им все же повезло, и вскоре группа оказалась под крылом солидного металлического лейбла "Metal blade".
Broken hopeНа новом месте команда дебютировала с альбомом "The bowels of repugnance". После его выхода из состава выперли басиста Эда Хьюза, мотивировав это тем, что он мало времени уделяет группе. Через пару недель на освободившемся месте оказался давний друг "Сломанной надежды" Шон Гласс (экс-"Sindrome"). Его способности проверили в североамериканском турне, где "Broken hope" разогревали "Unleashed". Удовлетворившись результатом, музыканты сделали Шона постоянным членом команды. В 1995-м вышел третий лонгплей, "Repulsive conception", на котором коллектив поэкспериментировал с думовыми элементами, заодно запихав на пластинку "Captain Howdy", кавер "Twisted sister". Промоушен альбому устроили в туре в компании с "Deicide" и "Six feet under".
В более-менее спокойной обстановке был записан еще один альбом, "Loathing", после чего начались проблемы. Шону Глассу надоело лабать чистый дэт, и он решил попробовать себя на поприще ню-металла, замутив проект "Soil". Достойной замены ему не удалось быстро подыскать, а тут еще заявил о своем уходе Райан Станек.
Broken hopeПомимо этих неурядиц у "Broken hope" возникла размолвка с лейблом и в результате "Metal blade" разорвал контракт. Несмотря на возникшие преграды, Вагнер и компа ния все-таки записали пятый альбом. В этом им помогли сессионщики Брайан Хобби (бас), Райан Шиммерти (бас), Майк Звик (бас) и Ларри Демумбрум (ударные). Уже под конец сессий на роль постоянного басиста взяли Сина Бакстера. После выхода "Grotesque blessings" команду покинул один из ее основателей Джо Птасек. Новый вокалист материализовался в виде Скотта Крикмора, а должность барабанщика занял Джефф Баумгарднер.
В 2002 году "Broken hope" взялись за запись очередного альбома с рабочим названием "Flesh mechanic", но сессии не были доведены до конца. В середине работ разразился скандал и группа раскололась на два лагеря. Вагнер, Крикмор и Баумгарднер ушли в "Earthburner", а Бакстер и Гриффин, объявив о прекращении деятельности "Broken hope", скооперировались под вывеской "Incivism".
