Obtained Enslavement был сформирован в 1989 в составе: Pest - вокал, бас-гитара; Dоden - гитара и Torquemada - ударные. В 1992 Heks присоединился к группе, чтобы играть на гитаре и клавишных, и с таким составом было выпущено демо Out Of The Crypts в 1993 году. Работа представляла собой многочисленные симфонии с классическим пианино в духе Бетховена и звуками синтезаторов на фоне убийственного, мрачного норвежского блэка.
В середине 1999 года началась запись нового материала в Soundsuite Studio (Tristania, Tsotb), и 24 января 2000 года увидел свет четвёртый и последний полноформатный альбом коллектива, озаглавленный The Shepherd and the Hounds of Hell, посредством лейбла Napalm Records. Первоначально выпуск его намечался на декабрь. Вскоре после релиза было принято решение распустить Obtained Enslavement, поскольку Pest отправился в США, а поиски нового вокалиста так и не увенчались успехом.
