Группа Sherwood была основана в конце 2002 года студентами Калифорнийского Государственного политехнического университета в городе Сан-Луис Обиспо.

Состав группы несколько раз изменялся. Сейчас в команде играют:
Нейт Перри (Nate Perry) – вокал, бас-гитара (основатель)
Дейв Кош (Dave Kosh) – гитара, бэк-вокал, тексты (основатель)
Майки Лейбович (Mikey Leibovich) – клавишные
Джо Гринетц (Joe Greenetz) – ударные
Дейв Провенцано (Dave Provenzano) – гитара (играет на «живых» выступлениях, непостоянный участник).

В 2005 году после нескольких лет гастролей Sherwood выпустили свой дебютный альбом – “Sing, But Keep Going”. Он был продан тиражом в 20 тысяч копий и принёс группе ощутимую популярность. После плотного концертного тура по стране музыканты на некоторое время отправились в Мексику, где нарабатывали новый материал – как результат, в 2007 году в свет вышел второй LP, названный “A Different Light”, вышедший под новым лейблом MySpace Records.

Возможно, одной из главной причин успеха группы является относительно необычный для последних лет стиль: Sherwood стараются фокусироваться на создании ритмичных композиций, неагрессивных по характеру тексту и музыки. Также легко прослеживается влияние классической рок-музыки и прогрессивной альтернативы, связи со стандартами, установленными Beach Boys, хотя участники группы в своих интервью заявляли, что не хотят подобного сравнения.
