Beyond the bitterness and fighting
Beyond the oppression and the chain
Of all the hours of sad weeping

The course of life begins again
And like the willows by the river
Your deadened lives will be restored
Mysterious hands will lead you thither
To cure the wounds of fire and sword

But not for me the listless quiet
Of long-drawn calm on the hither shores
My eyes will gaze at the horizon
The thrеshold of unopened doors
For all the childrеn of fair Arda
Salvation will come from the sea
The thought of what lies in the distance
Like magic words will capture me

And for you, son, a path shall open
A call shall urge you to set sail
And be the tireless strong-willed seeker
Of what is hidden by the veil
For Men and Elves, a message-bearer
For earth and sky a sign of light
And in this land clouded by terror
The day of change shall be in sight

And yet the senseless aim was not achieved
For Elwing cast herself into the sea
Upon her breast the star-like jewel shone
By other hands for other ends retrieved

Heaving with the tall breakers
In the womb of the sea
Where nothing could reach me
Almost ceasing to be
Low, deep undersea
Currents carrying a corpse away
But the light spread inside me
Lifting body and soul
Stronger than my surrender
Into my being it stole
And I could not resist the light
And the sea played its lyre
A new creation's cry
Flying higher and higher

I left the Hither Lands to sail and wander
For my unquiet would not let me rest

When I remained alone the world was blinded
As, gazing at the sea, I sat and wept

Still lost in never-ending exploration
I was awakened by voices in dreams

And now the night has fallen
But the guidance of happy stars above
Will light my way

Lift up your eyes, O you that tremble
You, prisoners of disbelief
The longed-for messenger of freedom
Will come to announce the end of grief
The diamond of sunrise and sunset
The hope of those that are oppressed
Unlooked for and unknown appearing
By the Two Kindreds shall be blest

And at the fall of the eventide
They saw the treasure the Powers hide
They saw the outline of the last shore
The undying region of Valinor
A new departure towards the unknown
Towards a mystery not yet shown
And a new destiny in their hands
As they set foot upon the white sands
