Gang Of Four - Биография

Gang Of Four — рок-группа из Лидса, Англия, исполнявшая сверхполитизированный панк-рок с элементами фанка, даба и рэггей. Название коллектива (вопреки сложившемуся представлению) имеет отношение не к маоистскому термину, но к квартету основателей структурализма (Клод Леви-Строс, Мишель Фуко, Ролан Барт, Жак Лакан). Характерными особенностями раннего стиля группы были сдержанно-агрессивный речитатив Джона Кинга, отрывистые, взрывные гитарные партии Энди Гилла и мощная работа ритм-секции, придававшая даже самым жестким, шумовым трекам танцевальный привкус. Многие группы 80-х годов переняли внешние атрибуты стиля ранних GO4, но истинными их последователями можно считать Minutemen и Fugazi, которые по-своему развили не столько музыкальные, сколько эстетические и интеллектуальные идеи британской группы. После распада в 1984 году Gang Of Four воссоединялись трижды; последний раз - в 2005 году, когда был выпущен «Return the Gift» (с заново переписанными классическими вещами раннего репертуара).
