Ursprünglich wollte Gio gefühlvolle Songs über die Liebe schreiben – aber bekannt wurde er dann stattdessen als Battlerapper. Der 1990 in Berlin geborene Musiker (richtiger Name: Giovanni Gartner) veröffentlichte über seinen YouTube-Kanal Comedy-Rapvideos und kam ab 2011 in die Battlerap-Szene, wo er schnell Erfolge vorweisen konnte. Ein Kampf gegen SpongeBOZZ sorgte 2013 für Klickzahlen, zwei Jahre später erreichte Gio Millionen von Zusehern mit einem Disstrack gegen den YouTuber Liont. Auf seinem 2017 veröffentlichten Debütalbum Zahltag setzt Gio allerdings weniger auf Battlerap als auf persönliche und kritische Texte.
