Royce Da 5’9’’ также известный как Nickel-Nine и King of Detroit, настоящее имя Ryan Montgomery, родился 5-го июля 1977-го года в Детройте. Его относят к таким жанрам, как Freestyle Rap, Battle Rap, Detroit Hip Hop. Он сотрудничал с такими звукозаписывающими лейблами, как Tommy Boy, Game Recordings, Columbia, M.I.C. и Trouble Records. Это было как раз тогда, когда он работал над новым альбомом совместно с DJ Premier’ом и поэтому срок был сокращён до 6-ти месяцев. Рэпер был выпущен на свободу 9-го января 2007-го года и в 2009-м году выпустил свой пятый студийный альбом под названием «Street Hop».

У него также была проблема с известным продюсером и рэпером Kayne West’ом из-за того, что Royce Da 5’9’’ якобы украл у него песню. После этого инцидента West поклялся никогда не сотрудничать с ним.
