[Napoleon Da Legend verse]

Give ya peeps flowers while they still alive
Passed two weeks Mr. Metasen and Dion died
Too young to see the pearly gates but when it’s your time
They don’t discriminate ya body separates ya soul flies
We s’posed grow wise, I’m still doing the dumb things
Guess being alive means, you gonna mess up some things
Friendships evolve relationships fall
Ya ship might stall I faith leap over the pitfalls
Sometimes fake sleep in the night my brain peaks
Replaying the same scene reliving the pain grief
It ain’t brief it’s a slow stab thru the heart
Still I move bars and make a path thru the dark
Drink away my hurt Like Bruno Mars
My musics Julliard, I never attended a school of art
I just focus and I do my part keep it true with god
My higher self connect with who we truly are
Yo fuck man the shit is hard
God how can I try to be great when I’m so flawed
I’m looking at the sky and stars looking for answers
I guess your strengths can become ya disadvantage
And ya weakness can become ya best assets
That’s why I care less now, that less baggage
Life ain’t always black and white that’s Len Kravitz
20,000 hours in the trap I spent rapping
I claim my space thru co-signs and denies
Thru the lies, the divides and the conquer still I rise
And I... I really let my soul speak
Float at low speed over the low frequencies
High density thoughts, I don’t invent em I just let em in
And let em enter thru my crown to my center
Create a seed that’ll fertilize a placenta
Only place you’ll find peace is at the epicenter
I wrote about this about year later
Kobe died and pop smoke died
Gotta pace myself kid it’s a slow grind
Industry still working off of co-signs
The underground too we ain’t immune
They love to see us fight like a UFC pay per view
In a world where! some’ll hate you when u say the truth
Cause the house of cards will crumble and you’ll hurt their paper too
Slave too some institutions create to just to oppress you
Throwing brands at you to impress you
We falling for the same tricks for years we ain’t gain shit
Name recognition is the game to get ya flame lit
So many artist getting screwed, I didn’t wanna be a stat
You see the story arc these major artists tend to re-enact
The system keeps us demoralized so we seek a savior
Who we can look up to boost immunity like echinacea
Viruses mutating contingent on u hating
It’s contagious I keep my distance from these dudes flaking
Everyday I get an inbox from new fans
They love the fact that I stay real in what I do man
I don’t try sugarcoat, I write my life and my thoughts
My hopes and my dreams my wins and losses
The good, bad and the ugly, when the path get muddy
Optimistic though, I know tomorrow be back sunny
In dire straits or broke I know I’ll get back money
Cause everything I built they can never take that from me
I know a lot of y’all, Love to be sold on a fantasy
Probably discouraged by the setbacks and anguish can it be
It Used to be so simple then life got real
Reality sets the hype died and lies revealed
Now what you got left? The best part of you survived
Ya minds a jewel either sit back or choose to rise
The worlds at a stand still
The globes still spinning
Feeling like I got an anvil on top my shoulders staying clean sober
Can be challenging, gotta strategize still a soldier
Everybody’s important don’t let em tell you different
Most these diva rappers in the game! selling fiction
Just like the corporate media and their little puppets
All too eager sell their people out for couplets nuggets
And people love em cause the image so glamorous
With no regards to the youth that they damaging
Peep the money trail, where u think it goes to?
Those are people u don’t see but they know you
African soul food I give it to you so new
Alkaline for the soul man I’m a whole mood
Stronger back the dead I’m like Goku
Focusing the lens on all the pain that I go thru
But I ain’t gonna hold you remember who friends are
Those who check on me just to check on me bless y’all
No favors to ask and no punchlines
The type of real friends that got ya back when it’s crunch time
Too many clout chasers taking pictures with the famous
Every single week those be the lamest
Trying to make u think they popping so they can profit
Everything’s about the market selling themselves as a product
And the human side dies it’s a soul homicide
Never let a earth dweller promise you the sky
Give flowers to the living, the people that deserve it
Who tell the truth go against the grain with great courage
People u forget cause they don’t make much noise
Quiet as kept without drama just grace and poise
So whoever needs hear this love you
I mean that from the bottom
Thank you ....

Napoleon Da Legend - Biography

Bilingual, Hip-Hop/Afrobeat artist, Napoleon Da Legend transferred his skills on the basketball court to the wax. Before that, he had to teach himself English. He kept his ears glued to the radio.

Paris-born, to the Comoros Islands, then Washington DC raised, the son of an immigrant family, Napoleon is a Brooklyn-based artist who uses his voice as weapon of hope, social-critique, conquest, and joy. After an untimely split, his parents left the U.S. and went their separate ways leaving the 16 year old to fend for himself in the DC / Maryland area, which helped him develop his hustle, instinct and work-ethic. NDL’s song “Black Privilege” led him to be featured at the Essence Festival in 2017. He was then invited to perform live on FOX 5’s Good Day DC.

NDL’s message of empowerment, community, and self-determination through music doesn’t stop there. He also works regularly with youth, running hip-hop workshops in Brooklyn’s toughest schools and Rikers Island’s juvenile programs.

Following the release of his “Steal This Mixtape” series in 2016, Napoleon headlined his “Steal This Mixtape” European Tour. He’s been featured on Statik Selekta’s Show Off Radio Show and Sway Calloway’s Sway in the Morning. To top all this, he graced the stage at the final Rocksteady Crew’s 40th Anniversary show at SummerStage in Central Park. In 2019, NDL performed in Europe’s biggest Hip-Hop Festival Hip-Hop Kemp in Czech Republic as Supa Kaiju with rapper/producer Sicknature.

2018 was yet another prolific year, without a doubt. Napoleon released 10 projects- including four albums, four mixtapes, and two EP’s released through various indie labels (Chopped Herring, Media Pop, Copenhagen Crates and Tuff Gong Records). This was followed by eight appearances in 2019 at Harlem Week’s main stage. He then became recognized for his fusing the world’s of Hip-Hop and Anime with albums Dragon Ball G (Dragon Ball Z), Bronze Saints (Saint Seiya) and King of the North Star (Fist of the North Star) in a feature article on Bandcamp (How Napoleon Da Legend Made Anime-Inspired Rap an Artform).

Since then, NDL has released 12 more projects, including the afrobeat/hip-hop fusion projects, “Afrostreet” & “Afrostreet 2”. After creating a few anthems (“Poulet Maafe”), which became popular with his French speaking audience, NDL decided to put his French powers into high gear. In September, 2019, he gave his first in interview in French with Mediapac (Watch it here), garnering over 100,000 views in less than a week. In May 2020, NDL featured on elite French rapper Akhenaton’s (IAM) “Asteroïde” project, trading verses in French and English on the innovative song “Storytellers”. In 2021, NDL was invited to adapt Akhenaton’s 19 minute song “La Faim de leur Monde” in English. They later collaborated on a 3-part EP series called “The Whole in my Heart” produced by Akhenaton on his label La Cosca.
