〈Verse 1〉
I guess you never found your way back here
Now our landmarks have all washed away
The Conoco there on the corner
The stages where we used to play

〈Verse 2〉
Our lifetimes have built up a language
That only the two of us speak
In the summer, the grass will grow over
Where we buried our histories deep
〈Chorus〉
Now that the years have become a rift that "I'm sorry" can't span
All of the songs that you wrote about leaving
Why was I so surprised when you did?
So I'll box up the things you left behind and pack them away
The way that you laughed, the words we still pronounce the same

〈Verse 3〉
There are books on my shelf that you picked out
From shops that have since closed their doors
Which parts of my self are my own now
And which parts are still borrowed from yours?

〈Verse 4〉
There's a lake out in back of the Thrifty's
There's a weather-worn bench in the park
There's a rooftop we used to climb up to
When I cross your mind, please remember the good parts

〈Chorus〉
Now that the years have become a rift that "I'm sorry" can't span
All of the songs that you wrote about leaving
Why was I so surprised when you did?
So I'll box up the things you left behind and pack them away
The voice I still hear echo mine in the car with the words we sang
〈Chorus〉
Now that the years have become a rift that "I'm sorry" can't span
All of the songs that you wrote about leaving
Why was I so surprised when you did?
So I'll box up the things you left behind and pack them away
I will roll up the memories in cloth, I will keep them safe

Matthew LeFevers - Biography

Matthew LeFevers has been releasing a steady stream of music with various bands (This Glass Embrace, Map & Compass, and others) for decades. This new solo project is a chance to make something different — vulnerable, intimate, and raw. It draws inspiration from modern singer-songwriters, radio pop, and indie folk, and tries to reach the true and quiet place beyond our tangled fears.
