Matthew LeFevers - Cold in the Evenings

〈Verse 1〉
When the light goes sharp
And you can’t hear through the noise floor
When the storm wall breaks
And every word is a splinter

〈Verse 2〉
I will try to be
Something useful and stable
I am a house-shaped key
The mug of tea on the table

〈Chorus〉
It’s getting cold in the evenings
But I’ll keep you warm if I can
Give me your hands when they’re freezing
Give me the thoughts you can’t stand
Someday we’ll drive to the mountains
Out between the pines
Bury our hands in the dry earth
And leave the fear behind

〈Verse 3〉
The days are soft and strange
I felt the creak as I crossed them
If the bridge gives way
I’ll help you swim to the surface
〈Chorus〉
It’s getting cold in the evenings
But I’ll keep you warm if I can
Give me your hands when they’re freezing
Give me the thoughts you can’t stand
Someday we’ll drive to the mountains
Out between the pines
Bury our hands in the dry earth
And leave the fear behind

〈Bridge〉
Someday we
Will close our eyes in the silence
We will sleep til the light breaks in
Nowhere to be but together
Someday we
Will hear the sound in the stillness
See through the paint to the canvas
And we will start to remember

〈Chorus〉
It’s getting cold in the evenings
But I’ll keep you warm if I can
Give me your hands when they’re freezing
Give me the thoughts you can’t stand
Someday we’ll drive to the mountains
Out between the pines
Bury our hands in the dry earth
And leave the fear behind

Matthew LeFevers - Biography

Matthew LeFevers has been releasing a steady stream of music with various bands (This Glass Embrace, Map & Compass, and others) for decades. This new solo project is a chance to make something different — vulnerable, intimate, and raw. It draws inspiration from modern singer-songwriters, radio pop, and indie folk, and tries to reach the true and quiet place beyond our tangled fears.
