Shipwrecked Mind - For The Story’s Sake

I’m bottling up and bottoming out
The river of Styx here engulfs me
These spirits and souls fill endless black holes
That are otherwise left gaping and empty

As I sit in my stupor
I see I’m a loser
Lost to the tripling way
These veins have betrayed me
And made me so angry
That I’ll tear at them if I stay awake

These beings in my mind
Are so far from our kind
I’m best off to just call them demons
They’re seven feet tall
But they’re so smooth when they talk
It’s evil incarnate come speakin’
They take me away
To a-whole-nother place
How I long to forget that I’ve seen it

It’s hotter than Hades
A river like Euphrates
Except the current’s made of souls there within it
It all smells like eggs wrapped up in death
They tell me that this is where I’ll go
I scream out God’s name
They laugh in my face
And tell me he can’t hear me down below
They tell me to gouge out my eyes
There’s nothing in this life worth seein’
They tell me to tear out my tongue
Because I’ve got no purpose for speakin’
They tell me to drown all my sorrows in whiskey
Life is just shit and no one will miss me
There isn’t a reason to wake
As the demons they crowd me
Sadness has crowned me
The king of nothing today
And I’m not deserving
Of tomorrow morning
But I’ll hang on for the story’s sake

They’re as pretty as ever
Them demons are damn clever
Knowing all my weak points and fears
But they keep my drinks a-flowin’
So this beast doesn’t stop growin’
One day it’ll take me out of here

They tell me to gouge out my eyes

They tell me to tear out my tongue
Because I’ve got no purpose for speakin’

As I lay me down to sleep
It’s a little past three
And I’ve drank nearly a litre
Of old number seven
I can forget about my Heaven
And I’m praying hell won’t want me either
